Hopefully this will be a happy and exciting time for you. But pregnancy can also lead to anxieties and unexpected feelings, especially if you have been trying to conceive for a long time, had fertility treatment or previous miscarriages. You may be shocked, feel vulnerable and responsible for the life inside you, anxious about the baby’s development, the birth and unsure about the life changes a baby will bring..
Having acupuncture treatment in pregnancy is an ideal way to nourish yourself physically with gentle treatments, and provides time just for you where you can share and express those complex and often conflicting feelings. This will help you feel healthy and empowered through your pregnancy.
Pregnant women are highly motivated to find drug-free solutions to medical and health problems. Acupuncture from an experienced practitioner is a safe, effective and gentle way of gaining relief from many of the disorders of pregnancy, and can lessen the need for medical treatments.
If you do not suffer specific problems, acupuncture treatments every 6-8 weeks will help you stay healthy and relaxed. I have treated many women from the very beginning of their pregnancy, including those carrying twins and triplets.
If your baby is in the breech position, treatment with moxa, a warming herb on a point on the little toe, is often effective, and after your first treatment with me, is an easy one to continue at home on a daily basis for the next 10 days, checking with your midwife as soon as you feel the baby make a major movement. The optimal time to come is around 34 to 35 weeks, but can be used later.
At every treatment we will talk about where you are in your pregnancy, discuss any problems, feedback from your midwife, and any concerns or anxieties you may have. I will pass on any tips on nutrition, resources or other treatments which may help you have the best experience you can have. I will always refer you back to your midwife if I have any concerns.
